HEat energy given off by a person

Click For Summary
SUMMARY

The discussion centers on calculating the heat energy emitted by a person sitting at a desk, specifically while wearing shorts and a t-shirt. Participants confirm that a heat output of 100 to 150 watts is realistic, with 100 watts being a standard figure used in engineering calculations for heat load. This information is crucial for determining air conditioning requirements in a classroom setting.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of basic thermodynamics
  • Familiarity with heat load calculations
  • Knowledge of energy units (watts and calories)
  • Experience with HVAC system requirements
NEXT STEPS
  • Research HVAC load calculation methods
  • Learn about the impact of clothing on heat output
  • Explore energy consumption metrics in indoor environments
  • Investigate the principles of thermoregulation in humans
USEFUL FOR

This discussion is beneficial for physics students, HVAC engineers, and anyone involved in environmental control systems, particularly in educational settings.

My physics class is doing a project where we need to calculate the airconditioning requirements for our class room.
I need to find out the amount of heat energy given off by a person sitting at a desk, wearing shorts and tshirt.
I have found some sites that state 100watts to 150watts
Is this realistic?

find the amount of calories you burn in a certain amount of time. Work from there.

Yes ... 100 Watts per person is often used for engineering calculations of heat load.
