Discussion Overview

The discussion centers around the creation of a heavy smoke bomb, specifically focusing on the formulation and effectiveness of various mixtures, including potassium nitrate and sugar. Participants express differing views on the appropriateness of sharing information related to smoke bomb construction.

Discussion Character

  • Debate/contested
  • Technical explanation

Main Points Raised

  • One participant expresses disappointment with a potassium nitrate and sugar smoke bomb recipe, suggesting that a larger quantity of reactants is needed to achieve a dense smoke output.
  • Another participant humorously identifies as someone who wants to experiment, indicating a casual approach to the topic.
  • A third participant warns about the dangers associated with high concentrations and improper ratios of reactants, although specific details were not disclosed.
  • One participant questions the educational value of the inquiry, suggesting that the questions posed do not warrant serious discussion within the forum's context.
  • A later reply agrees with the sentiment that the discussion lacks educational merit and proposes closing the thread.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants express disagreement regarding the appropriateness of discussing smoke bomb construction, with some arguing it is inappropriate for the forum while others engage with the topic more casually. The discussion remains unresolved regarding the educational value of the inquiries.

Contextual Notes

There are limitations in the discussion regarding the safety and chemical principles involved in smoke bomb creation, as well as the lack of detailed chemical theories or educational context provided by participants.

Hey, before I get started, I know this is a forum for serious chemists and not punk ass kids who want to screw around, but oh well.

I tried the 6 part potassium nitrate and 4 part sugar smoke bomb and I was greatly disappointed. I have used those pre-manufactered smoke bombs that use about a half a gram of reactants and give off enough smoke to fill a garage. I would probably need 5 or 6 grams of Sugar and KNO3 to fill a garage.

What do i need to make a heavy/thick/dense smoke bomb?

Alright I am only telling you this since it was told to me. Again I am serious when I say that it is VERY VERY dangerous if there
1) The concentrations are too high
2) To much limiting reagent is used.

But here it is...

Again only for inrofmative purposes.

I really don't think that it was necessary to tell him this information; if he wished to understand any of the chemical theories behind the smoke bomb he would have asked specific questions. There's plenty of information out there on smoke bombs, nevertheless these questions have no educational value whatsoever and inappropriate here at PF.
