Homework Help Overview

The discussion revolves around calculating the U-value for a single glazed window with a specified area and thermal transmission under a temperature difference. The subject area pertains to thermal physics and heat transfer principles.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Conceptual clarification, Assumption checking

Approaches and Questions Raised

  • Participants are attempting to understand how to calculate the U-value, questioning the necessary equations and the units involved. There are inquiries about the power transmitted per unit area and how that relates to the U-value.

Discussion Status

The discussion is ongoing, with participants exploring different aspects of the U-value calculation. Some have provided definitions and context for the U-value, while others are seeking clarification on the equations needed for the calculation.

Contextual Notes

There is a mention of a temperature difference and specific power transmission values, but the exact equations and methods for calculation have not been established in the discussion.

A single glazed window of area 3m^2 transmits 400W when there is a temperature difference of 15C across the glass, What is the U-value of the glass??

Help me, how do i work this out?

What are the units of U value? What is the power per unit area that is transmitted by the glass? Can you work out the U value from that?

I think you can look this up as well as I can. U value measures the energy in watts flowing through a one m^2 area of glass surface having a temperature difference of one degree between the inside and outside. Work it out from that.
