What other books cover waves and vibrations?

SUMMARY

The discussion identifies two primary books on waves and vibrations: 'Vibration and Waves in Physics' by Main and 'Vibrations and Waves' by French. While the former is praised for its comprehensive table of contents, the latter is noted for its superficial treatment of Fourier analysis and lack of coverage on wave packets. Additionally, Benjamin Crowell's book is recommended as a free resource, along with a mention of John Pain's work. A foundational understanding of sound, mechanical waves, electromagnetic waves, and partial differential equations is essential for readers.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of sound and mechanical waves
  • Familiarity with electromagnetic waves
  • Knowledge of partial differential equations
  • Basic concepts of Fourier analysis
NEXT STEPS
  • Explore 'Vibration and Waves in Physics' by Main for comprehensive coverage
  • Read 'Vibrations and Waves' by French for foundational concepts
  • Download and study Benjamin Crowell's free book on waves and vibrations
  • Investigate John Pain's contributions to the topic
USEFUL FOR

Students and educators in physics, particularly those focusing on waves and vibrations, as well as anyone seeking to deepen their understanding of sound, mechanical waves, and electromagnetic waves.

I've run a search through amazon and I found that basically there are only 2 books about waves and vibrations:

1. 'Vibration and waves in physics' by Main, which looks good judging from the table of content

2. 'Vibrations and Waves' by French, which is the book I used for my W&V class but it doesn't treat the subject of wave packets and it introduces Fourier analysis only superficially.

Has anyone read 1. ?

What are the other books on waves and vibrations?

There is another one by John Pain. There is not much you need to know except sound (or mechanical waves) and electromagnetic waves.

PS: And of course partial differential equations.
