Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the challenges faced by a participant in assembling and programming a robot kit. It includes issues related to missing parts, vague programming instructions, and the overall frustration with the product. The conversation touches on personal experiences with robotics and programming, as well as humorous exchanges about alternative entertainment options.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory
  • Technical explanation
  • Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • One participant reports missing vital parts in their robot kit and expresses frustration with vague programming instructions.
  • Another suggests taking a break from the project to gain perspective.
  • A participant humorously notes that they usually end up with extra parts when assembling items.
  • Concerns are raised about the lack of customer support from the company, with claims that emails and calls go unanswered.
  • There are humorous suggestions about alternative products, such as a Tvo, which leads to a light-hearted exchange about entertainment options.
  • Participants joke about the idea of building a robot girlfriend, with playful banter about personal relationships.
  • Technical discussions arise regarding programming issues, with mentions of tweaking code and the types of logic gates involved in the circuitry.
  • One participant proposes trying an exclusive OR in their programming as a potential solution.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants express a mix of sympathy and humor regarding the original poster's frustrations, but there is no consensus on the effectiveness of the robot kit or the programming challenges. Multiple viewpoints on how to address the issues remain present.

Contextual Notes

Participants reference specific technical aspects of programming and circuitry, but the discussion includes a significant amount of humor and personal anecdotes that may distract from the technical issues at hand.

Well i bought this robot kit and every thing progressed ok until the last stage
of construction, vital parts are missing, well that's not to bad i made the missing
parts, the next stage is programming, ouch ,it is just so vague, the first stage
"centering the servos went ok", but then it went down hill, my £250 bot is a
useless peace of junk

Computer science news on Phys.org
aww sorry to hear that. It may not be totally wasted, just put it aside for a few days, maybe a fix will come to mind.

That's strange - when I assemble something, I usually end up with extra parts. Did you ask the computer or engineering people for suggestions?

There is no one there three phone call to a recorded message
ignored e mails, i think the company has gone bust or some thing.

too bad. you shouldv'e bought a Tvo, much more entertaining.

What the eks a tvo, i fancied an evo.
:!)

A Tvo let's you rewind, pause, and skip 30 second ahead on TV.

At some point you should stop trying to build a girlfriend, and maybe just try to meet one.

No wonder you're having trouble with the programming then.

Bits bytes, if i tweek the bit in the third row the legs fly up in the air, i am
sure it should be an and in that line but the book says not.

The circuitry is mostly ANDs and OR gates, but mind the NOTs!
