What does height depend on a projectile motion besides gravity?

Click For Summary

Homework Help Overview

The discussion revolves around the factors affecting the height of a projectile in motion, specifically questioning elements beyond gravity, such as initial velocity and launch angle.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Conceptual clarification

Approaches and Questions Raised

  • Participants explore the influence of launch angle and initial velocity on the height achieved by a projectile. Questions are raised about the relationship between these factors and the resulting height.

Discussion Status

The conversation is ongoing, with participants sharing thoughts on how different initial velocities might affect height. Some guidance is offered regarding the importance of angle and velocity, but no consensus has been reached.

Contextual Notes

Participants are considering various scenarios, including extreme cases of initial velocity, to better understand the problem. There is an implicit assumption that gravity is a constant factor in the discussion.

What would you think could matter?

?

i know the angle makes a difference. but i don't know about time and velocity

Suppose you throw a ball straight up at 1 ft/min and another at 100 ft/min. Will they both go the same height? Does (initial) velocity matter? (And if you are not sure consider a real extreme- suppose you throw the ball with initial velocty 0 ft/min?)
