Finding a Science Project: 11th Grade Physics Edition

Click For Summary
SUMMARY

The discussion centers on finding a suitable science project for an 11th-grade physics class, specifically focusing on magnetic energy. The user seeks project ideas that align with their current study of Newton's Laws and acceleration. Suggestions include experimenting with magnetic field strength, measuring electrical current induced by magnets, and exploring the effects of magnetic fields on electrical conductors. The teacher recommended using plasma balls as a potential experiment, referencing the site pppl.gov for further information.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of Newton's Laws of Motion
  • Basic knowledge of magnetic fields and their properties
  • Familiarity with electrical current and conductors
  • Experience with experimental design and data collection
NEXT STEPS
  • Research methods for measuring magnetic field strength using various magnet arrangements
  • Learn about electromagnetic induction and how to measure current in a coil of wire
  • Investigate the relationship between magnetic fields and electrical resistance in conductors
  • Explore the behavior of charged particles in changing magnetic fields and their applications
USEFUL FOR

High school students, particularly those in physics classes, educators guiding science projects, and anyone interested in experimental physics related to magnetic energy.

Okay, I am really sorry if I am supposed to post this some where else, I remember seeing a science fair thread before they redid stuff and I can not find where I should post this now…. I am having a lot of trouble coming up with a science project (we have to do a big graduation project and I am doing mine in physics but I want to get it into the science fair). I am in 11th grade, I just started physics, and we really have not done much yet, we are doing Newton’s Law and acceleration stuff and that is basically it so far. I talked to my teacher about the project and I wanted to do something about magnetic energy, and she suggested doing something with the plasma balls (she gave me the site pppl.gov). I still have no clue what my experiment would be or what I would do, so if anyone could help me it would be much appreciated! If you have any idea pm or I am me; my AIM is the same as my screen name here. Thanks.

There are many different ways that you could approach a science project on magnetic energy. Here are a few ideas to get you started: 1. You could experiment with the strength of magnetic fields by placing magnets in various arrangements and comparing the strength of the resulting magnetic field. 2. You could measure the electrical current produced by a magnet when it is moved through a coil of wire. 3. You could explore the effect of magnetic fields on electrical conductors by measuring the resistance of a conductor when it is placed in a magnetic field. 4. You could look at the effects of changing magnetic fields on the behavior of charged particles, such as electrons. 5. You could measure the force of attraction or repulsion between two magnets in different orientations. 6. You could investigate the effect of a changing magnetic field on the behavior of a plasma ball. Good luck with your project!
