Different ways of obtaining the equations of motion. Lagrangian/Hamiltonian is more "elegant", and I guess you can say "a different way of looking at mechanics".

I'd say finish differential equations before you look into this, and also study numerical methods of integrating ODEs (Euler and Runge-Kutta) if you want to ever use L.M. for practical applications.
