Welcome our new tigons!

Just before last Christmas, a lioness gave birth to 3 tigons, her off-spring after an affair with a tiger male.

The tigon is much rarer than the liger, less than 10 tigons are believed to exist.
But, they are mighty cute!

Awww, poor babies.

1. What is a tigon?

A tigon is a hybrid animal that is a cross between a male tiger and a female lion. It has physical characteristics of both species, with the head and body of a lion and stripes on its fur like a tiger.

2. How do tigons differ from ligers?

Tigons differ from ligers in that they have a lioness as their mother and a tiger as their father, whereas ligers have a lion as their father and a tiger as their mother. Tigons also tend to be smaller in size compared to ligers.

3. Are tigons considered a separate species?

No, tigons are not considered a separate species. They are a hybrid offspring of two different species and are unable to reproduce, making them a unique hybrid animal.

4. Do tigons have any health issues?

Tigons can have health issues due to their genetic makeup, as they are a hybrid of two different species. Some may experience abnormalities or health problems related to their size, such as spinal issues or digestive problems.

5. Where can tigons be found?

Tigons can be found in captivity in zoos and wildlife sanctuaries. They do not exist in the wild as they are a man-made hybrid and cannot survive in the wild on their own.
