getting into leptons

hi, i m new to particle physics

why is it that we cannot subdivide the leptons but we can do divide protons(we speak of quarks) knowing the fact that it is much difficult to break protons ?

We do not know that we cannot subdivide leptons but it is just that experiments that we have done so far suggest that the electron is point like while the proton is composite

Sorry for the typo
