# The tension between addition and multiplication - the basis for all mathematics?

P: 2 Throughout mathematics, we see the appearance of pi and e, they are integral to every part of mathematics. could this be because the reason all or at least most mathematical problems arise because of the tension between multiplication and addition (pi and e) itself?. certainly the deepest mathematics comes out of this idea, at the very least. I had an idea not just that many important problems are tied up with this conflict, in primes and so forth, but that *all* mathematical ideas are related to it somehow.
Math Emeritus Sci Advisor Thanks PF Gold P: 38,708 I can't imagine why you thin that "multiplication and addition" are reflected in pi and e. In any case, your question (oh, I see you have already been banned) is mysticism, not mathematics.
