Styrofoam, Deflection, and Treatment
Hi I am in a competition where I have to use the deflection of a polystyrene beam to launch a projectile. Styrofoam is rather brittle but it is the only material we are allowed to use (it's cheap). I have a geometry all set but I was wondering if there is any possible way to treat the styrofoam so that I can make it less brittle and get much greater deflection?

Doubtful. If you're only allowed to use styrofoam, then you're only allowed to use styrofoam. Laminating it might be an option if you are allowed an adhesive?
