Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the units of momentum, specifically focusing on the measurement expressed in kg*m/s and its equivalence to other units such as Newton-seconds (N*s). The scope includes conceptual clarification and technical explanation of unit measurement in physics.

Discussion Character

  • Conceptual clarification, Technical explanation

Main Points Raised

  • One participant asks for a measurement of momentum units, specifically mentioning kg*m/s.
  • Another participant confirms that momentum does have units and agrees that kg*m/s is one such unit.
  • A different participant introduces N*s (Newton * Second) as another unit for momentum.
  • It is noted that N*s is typically associated with impulse, but some participants argue that the two units are fundamentally equivalent and that their usage can overlap without issue.
  • A later reply humorously refers to the strictness of those who might complain about the interchangeability of the units.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants generally agree that momentum has units and that kg*m/s and N*s are equivalent, although there is some playful contention regarding the appropriateness of their interchangeability.

Contextual Notes

The discussion does not resolve the nuances of when to use each unit or the implications of their interchangeability in different contexts.

would you give a measurement of mometum units? like kg*m/s?

Of course momentum has units! And you are exactly correct, one such unit would be kg*m/s.

It's also N*s. (Newton * Second)

N*s is usually used as the unit for impulse. But the two units are fundamentally equivalent, and only a real stickler would complain about their cross-usage.

You stickler.
