Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the challenges of adding a signature image to forum posts, specifically related to a quantum mechanics picture. Participants explore various methods for uploading and resizing images, as well as the technical requirements for successful implementation.

Discussion Character

  • Technical explanation
  • Debate/contested
  • Meta-discussion

Main Points Raised

  • One participant seeks guidance on how to add a signature image, mistakenly referring to it as a "signiture."
  • Another participant clarifies that the term for the image is "avatar" and expresses uncertainty about the process.
  • Several participants suggest using the image URL in posts to display the image, but there are mixed results regarding its effectiveness.
  • Concerns are raised about the size of the image for a signature, with suggestions to use image editing software or online tools to resize it.
  • Participants mention using MS Paint for resizing images and saving them in formats like .jpg to reduce file size.
  • One participant shares a link to an online image editing site for further assistance.
  • There is a discussion about the difficulties faced when trying to upload images, including server issues and confusion about the process.
  • Participants express frustration over technical challenges and the perceived complexity of uploading images, with one considering abandoning the effort.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants generally agree on the methods for resizing and uploading images, but there is no consensus on the best approach or resolution to the technical issues faced. The discussion remains unresolved regarding the effectiveness of the proposed solutions.

Contextual Notes

Limitations include unclear instructions on image uploading, varying levels of technical expertise among participants, and unresolved issues with server accessibility for image hosting.

How can I add a signiture? I found a great quantum mechanics picture that I'd like to make my signiture.

thanks

Physics news on Phys.org
I think you mean avatar, that's what the picture is called and the answer is I don't know. But if I did you better believe I'd tell you and I'd tell you nicely and politely.

Thank you anywho, Tribog! (see? that rhymes!)

here is the picture anyway. My idea is just to always post with the image url, so it'll appear at the bottom of the post.

let's see if it works...

I'm not sure, but I think you need some photo/image enhancing software. At least that's how I resize mine. Anyone out there with more knowledge than me know about this one? (I'm quite sure MOST of you out there have more knowledge on this than me! I just recently learned out to upload an image - sort of... )

You can get MS Paint to do it. Image \ Stretch&Skew.

Good idea. I think that's the simplest idea.

But, it's not workin' out. What do I have to save the image as?

Just put it in some folder (or create a new one) on your C drive. Then you can use the image uploader and we can see your picture!

You can already see my picture Tsunami. :bigrinn:

But don't I have to buy the image uploader?

I'm confused. I thought you were trying to upload an image for us to see. Where can I already see it?

Nope. It's free. Just follow the directions I gave in the link.

Well, poop. I just tried to upload an image and got the dreaded 'cannot find server' page. Guess we'll have to wait a bit for the site to come back up. Bummer.

You'd probably want to save it as a .jpg, since .bmp's are huge.

You can do a "screen shot" of the picture, while it's up on your monitors screen, press 'control' and 'print screen' together, then open MS paint, and paste it there...but as the cookiemonster ponted out it is a BIG file...as a BMP...

You can also go to this site, and edit/crop/resize some pictures, for free, on there editor, at the site! available at; http://www.gifworks.com/

(I've used that one before for avies)

Mr.Robin Parsons posted the picture. It's the QM comic that flirts with the Uncertainty Principle.

Oh, and I'm not going to bother about it anymore. It's too much of a hassel for someone who is NOT good with computer stuff to be worrying about (and I have the strangest idea that I want to be a quantum engineer...
oh my  )

THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELPFUL, SUPER DEE DUPER HELP, GUYZ!
