cardiovascular system and Nitric-Oxide

I would like to start a disscusion on the benefits of NO and its function in the cardiovascular system. If anyone can recommend research papers/citations for study this would be great. Some basic fundamentals about this chemical are that it is a endotheium derived vasodiator. It is a signalling molecule biosynthesised endogenously from arginine and oxygen by various nitric oxide synthase (NOS) enzymes and by reduction of inorganic nitrate. The endothelium of blood vessels use nitric oxide to signal the surrounding smooth muscle to relax, thus resulting in vasodilation and increasing blood flow.
I think it may be inhaled under certain circumstances and surgeries.
My objective is to find out more about it and some ongoing research projects.
