Decreasing current in capacitors

Click For Summary

Homework Help Overview

The discussion revolves around the behavior of current and voltage in a capacitor after it has been charged and the switch in the circuit is opened. Participants are exploring the implications of these decreasing quantities on the voltage across a resistor and the overall current in the circuit.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Assumption checking

Approaches and Questions Raised

  • Participants are questioning how the decrease in current and voltage affects the circuit, particularly in relation to the resistor. There is also inquiry about the configuration of the circuit and whether the capacitor is connected to a resistor after being charged.

Discussion Status

The discussion is active, with participants seeking clarification on the circuit setup and the conditions under which current can flow. Some guidance has been offered regarding the potential configuration of the circuit, but there is no explicit consensus on the implications of the decreasing quantities.

Contextual Notes

There is a mention of a potential misunderstanding regarding the circuit configuration, particularly whether the switch is indeed open or if it connects to a resistor, which could affect the interpretation of the problem.

In a capacitor, after it is charged and then after the switch is open, the voltage and current decreses. How does these decresing quantities affect the voltage across R, and therefore, how do they affect the current in the circuit?

What does your circuit look like? Is the capacitor connected to a resistor after it's been fully charged?

If it is open then how can current flow it might have switch which has been connected to the resistor i.e making a RC circuit
