etching graphite


Can anyone help me out - what is an effective acid to etch graphite? if any, what would be useful for etching graphite? thanks.....

Nothing specific comes to mind, everything strong enough to dissolve (oxidize) graphite will most likely dissolve everything else as well...

From what do you want to etch?

How much etching are we talking about here? Millimeters or nanometers per minute?
Water (steam) can be used to etch graphite, but at very small scales.
