I would think you'd want to relate the spring energy, [itex]\frac{1}{2}k\langle x^2 \rangle[/itex] (where [itex]k[/itex] is the stiffness), to the thermal energy, [itex]k_B T[/itex] (where [itex]k_B[/itex] is Boltzmann's constant).
