Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around how to model an open circuit in a circuit diagram, specifically focusing on phase R and line number 4. Participants explore the implications of an open circuit in terms of circuit components and diagram representation.

Discussion Character

  • Technical explanation, Conceptual clarification, Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • One participant asks how to open circuit phase R, referring to line number 4 in the diagram.
  • Another participant suggests that if the impedance in line 4 breaks or burns out, it results in an open circuit, implying a potential connection to an unbalanced Y configuration.
  • A different participant proposes that to open circuit it, the load in line 4 should be removed and a direct line drawn to the source.
  • Another contribution explains that an open circuit indicates a failure in conduction and suggests that modeling an open circuit could involve adding a switch that opens.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants express differing interpretations of how to represent an open circuit, with no clear consensus on the best approach to modeling it in the diagram.

Contextual Notes

There are assumptions regarding the definitions of open circuits and the specific circuit configuration being discussed, which may not be fully articulated by all participants.

Who May Find This Useful

Individuals interested in circuit design, electrical engineering, or those studying circuit theory may find this discussion relevant.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'How do i open circuit phase R'. If the impedance (resistor) in line 4 breaks or burns out it is open.

I suspect this is a question about an unbalanced Y.

ok so i should open circuit it by removing the load in line 4 correct and draw a direct line to the source?

An open circuit means the conduction has failed, i.e. it is broken. If one wants to model an open ciruit, one would have to add a switch, which then opens.

For example

_______________ is closed

_________/ _____ is open
