Click For Summary

Discussion Overview

The discussion centers around the potential future of teleportation and related technological advancements, including self-navigating vehicles. Participants explore the feasibility of these concepts from a scientific perspective, touching on themes of technological progress and human innovation.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory
  • Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • One participant questions the possibility of teleportation and expresses curiosity about future scientific advancements, noting the current limitations of faster-than-light travel.
  • Another participant expresses hope for the near future regarding teleportation, suggesting that advancements in understanding the human mind may play a role.
  • A participant references an article about self-navigating vehicles, indicating that such technology is emerging but may not be immediately available.
  • Another participant argues that self-navigating vehicles do not require new technology, although they may be too expensive compared to traditional chauffeurs.
  • One participant cautions against underestimating the pace of technological growth, citing historical examples like the internet as evidence of rapid advancements.
  • A later reply reiterates the point about the rapid growth of technology, emphasizing that past perceptions of technological limits may not apply to the future.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants express differing views on the timeline and feasibility of teleportation and self-navigating vehicles. There is no consensus on the immediacy of these technologies or their requirements.

Contextual Notes

Some claims about technological feasibility depend on definitions of technology and may not account for economic factors influencing implementation.

Hi all,
Can anyone tell me what we can expect in the near future from a science perspective? I know it is not possible to travel faster than light but is teleportation possible? TVs without screen?

Not in the near near future but soon I hope as we are learning the manipulation of the human mind.

This november in Eetimes has appeared an article about Self-Navigating vehicles, cars that transport you wherever you want while you do a nap. Or whatever other thing you want

Actually self-navigating vehicles would require no new technology, though they would be prohibitively expensive, chauffeurs are much cheaper.

I'd be careful saying that. Human technology grows quite fast. Many years ago, people would never had thought that there could be an internet. It's all to see I guess =)
