Estimated volume of a golfball?

In summary, the estimated size of an average golf ball is approximately 4 cm in diameter, according to the standard measurement of the golf ball industry. However, some estimate it to be closer to 2 cm in diameter. To calculate the volume of a sphere, the formula is typically used, but even for an estimate, this information is necessary. The official diameter of a golf ball is 1.680 inches (42.67 mm) and is tested by falling through a ring gauge of the same diameter at a temperature of 23 +1°C.

Whats the estimated size your average golfball? Not the exact, but just an estimate? I tried 10 and 100 cm cubed but both were wrong.

Hmm...I'd estimate a golf ball to be a bit smaller than that. Maybe 2 cm diameter, so 1 cm in radius? Any golfers around to lend a hand with a ruler?

motionman, what formula is used to calculate the volume of a sphere? Even for an estimate, you need to know the formula to get close.

Here's the standard:
The diameter of the ball shall not be less than 1.680 inches (42.67mm). This specification will be satisfied if, under its own weight, a ball falls through a 1.680 inches diameter ring gauge in fewer than 25 out of 100 randomly selected positions, the test being carried out at a temperature of 23 +1°C.

What is the estimated volume of a golf ball?

The estimated volume of a golf ball is approximately 2.5 cubic inches or 41 cubic centimeters.

How is the volume of a golf ball calculated?

The volume of a golf ball is calculated by using the formula for the volume of a sphere, V = (4/3)πr³, where r is the radius of the golf ball.

Why is the volume of a golf ball important?

The volume of a golf ball is important because it affects the ball's aerodynamics and how it travels through the air. It also plays a role in the ball's compression and distance when hit.

Does the volume of a golf ball vary between brands?

Yes, the volume of a golf ball can vary slightly between different brands. This is due to variations in manufacturing processes and materials used.

Can the volume of a golf ball change over time?

Yes, the volume of a golf ball can change over time due to wear and tear. As the ball is used, it may become slightly compressed, resulting in a decrease in volume.
