SUMMARY

The discussion clarifies the distinction between parentheses and brackets in mathematical intervals. Specifically, (3,4) indicates an open interval where 3 is not included, while [3,4) denotes a half-open interval where 3 is included, and 4 is not. This differentiation is crucial for accurately representing ranges in mathematics. The terms "open interval" and "half-open interval" are essential for understanding these concepts.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of mathematical intervals
  • Familiarity with open and closed interval notation
  • Basic knowledge of coordinate systems
  • Ability to interpret mathematical symbols
NEXT STEPS
  • Study the properties of open and closed intervals in real analysis
  • Learn about interval notation and its applications in calculus
  • Explore the differences between discrete and continuous sets
  • Review examples of interval notation in mathematical problems
USEFUL FOR

Students, educators, and anyone studying mathematics who needs to understand the nuances of interval notation and its implications in various mathematical contexts.

I have one (hopefully) quick question for anyone out there willing to help. What's the difference between putting a pair of coordinate points, for example (3,4) in parentheses () and putting the between a bracket and a parenthesis like [3,4). Please respond soon because I need to know for homework that's due tomorrow. Thanks!

i don't think it is a coordinate. (3,4) means 3<x<4 while [3,4) means 3[tex]\leq x<4[/tex].

Right, not a coordinate. I think I meant to say interval. Either way, thanks very much! I just hope I can remember it now!
