Shift Unleashed horrible texture problems

I've been having texture problems and memory leaks for the PC version of need for speed shift unleashed. Sometimes the textures on the cars, and on the road, and in the sky, are all solid black.

I had this same problem with star wars the force unleashed.

Is there anything I can do to fix this? What might be causing this problem?

Some tracks are unplayable because much of the road has been "blacked out."

Check to ensure your direct x drivers are compatible with software you are running.

I went into CCC and disabled "surface format optimization" in 3D application settings.

This fixed it 100%

Someone on another forum advised me to do this.
