Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the concept of quantum theory and the nature of time, exploring both theoretical and conceptual aspects. Participants express varying degrees of understanding and provide resources for further exploration.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory
  • Conceptual clarification
  • Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • Some participants describe quantum theory as a framework that explains the behavior of matter at very small scales, highlighting its inherent discrete nature.
  • Others note that time is a contentious topic within the scientific community, with multiple theories ranging from time being a bending of physical dimensions to the idea that time may not exist at all.
  • A participant mentions that quantum theory leads to strange phenomena that, while counterintuitive, have been validated through experiments.
  • Links to external resources are provided by several participants, suggesting that quantum theory and time are complex subjects that require extensive reading to fully grasp.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants generally agree that both quantum theory and the nature of time are complex and multifaceted topics. However, there is no consensus on the definition of time, with multiple competing views presented.

Contextual Notes

Limitations include the broadness of the questions posed, the lack of a unified definition of time, and the dependence on various interpretations of quantum theory. Some participants express uncertainty about the relationship between quantum theory and concepts of time.

Who May Find This Useful

This discussion may be useful for individuals interested in foundational concepts in physics, particularly those exploring quantum mechanics and the philosophical implications of time.

dear reader,
can anyone tell me what is quantum theory? and what is time sciendifically?

Physics news on Phys.org
Those are questions that are very very broad.

QT simply describes the behavior of matter at a very small scale.

Time is not agreed upon by the scientific community, so I would have to tell you multiple theories. (From, it's a bending of three physical dimensions to time doesn't exist.)

Quantum theory is a description of the universe (especially significant at small scales) based on inherent discrete lumpiness of energy and matter. Which leads to all sorts of weird stuff that are strange yet found to be true.

Personally...I have no idea

The second part of the question was about time so I posted that article as it makes interesting reading.

Good overview of quantum theory:

http://www.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quantum_mechanics

You can/will spend hours going through the links there and their links -- quantum theory covers a LOT of ground! Just remember, if it seems simple you didn't get it!

From the same source, about time:

Click on the links in the sections "Time in engineering and applied physics" and "Time in philosophy and theoretical physics" for some specific theories that may be helpful.
