SUMMARY

The Soligor 8-inch telescope, priced between 699 and 799 euros, is not recommended for serious astronomical use, particularly if it features a Newtonian design with a German equatorial mount. Users report that the mount and tripod lack the necessary stability for optimal performance, which is crucial for capturing quality images of celestial objects such as planets, galaxies, and nebulas. Instead, potential buyers are advised to consider Dobsonian telescopes, which offer better stability and performance within the same price range.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of telescope types, specifically Newtonian and Dobsonian designs.
  • Familiarity with equatorial mounts and their stability requirements.
  • Basic knowledge of astronomical imaging techniques.
  • Awareness of price ranges for quality telescopes.
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the specifications and performance of Dobsonian telescopes.
  • Learn about the advantages of different telescope mounts, focusing on stability.
  • Explore user reviews and comparisons of the Soligor 8-inch telescope versus other models.
  • Investigate techniques for capturing images of celestial objects using telescopes.
USEFUL FOR

Astronomy enthusiasts, amateur astronomers, and anyone considering purchasing a telescope for observing celestial phenomena.

What is the Soligor 8in telescope like? I seen it in a camera shop in town yesterday for i think it was either 699 or 799 euros. Is it worth it? Is it a quality telescope for quality images of the nightsky such as planets, galazies & nebulas?

I have not tried one out, but if you are talking about the Newtonian model with the German equatorial mount, I would advise you to stay away. The tripod and mount seem far too light and small to provide adequate stability for an 8" scope. Have you considered a Dobsonian? There are some nice ones in that price range.
