Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the need for assistance in deducing equations relevant to university-level physics and mathematics. Participants express a desire to understand the derivation of specific equations, such as Snell's Law, and seek resources or guidance on how to approach this learning process.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory
  • Conceptual clarification
  • Homework-related

Main Points Raised

  • One participant expresses a need for help in deducing equations, particularly mentioning Snell's Law and the rapid pace of their mathematics course.
  • Another participant, who speaks Spanish, acknowledges the request but indicates they are not knowledgeable enough to provide assistance, suggesting the original poster consult their professor.
  • A participant emphasizes the importance of English in the field of mathematics and science, suggesting that understanding English is essential for mathematical discourse.
  • A participant from Mexico offers to help with questions related to physics, indicating their background in the subject.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants generally agree on the need for understanding the derivation of equations, but there is no consensus on how to best achieve this or on the specific equations that need to be addressed. Multiple perspectives on language and assistance are present, indicating a lack of resolution on how to proceed.

Contextual Notes

Participants express varying levels of expertise, with some indicating they are still in secondary education and may not have the knowledge to assist with university-level topics. The discussion also highlights potential language barriers in understanding mathematical concepts.

Who May Find This Useful

Students in university-level physics or mathematics courses, particularly those seeking to understand the derivation of equations and the foundational concepts behind them.

Hello everybody...

First of all I would like to know if anyone is spanish-speaking or lives in Mexico.

Second of all, I wanted to know if anyone knows about deducing equations I really need them, for my university.

Any page or book would be greatly appreciated.

On-line teaching or self-learning could be good too.

either that, or ask us in english. let me make one point clear: if you want to do mathematics in todays world, you must read write and speak and understand english. it is the universal language of science.

probably anyone here but me can explain snells law.

Here is a translation for everyone:

The problem is that recently I entered a course of mathematics, but the profesor advances too quickly and any equation that we see (it is the law of snell n1sin1=n2sin2) the profesor begins to deduce it, and begins to write other equations, that together with other equations cancel each other and little by little he is demonstrating that only the n's and sines remain, and now the law of snell is formed.

That is more of less what I need to learn, to deduce, to know where they came from, etc...

If someone could help him with the math I can translate anything he doesn't understand english wise...
