SUMMARY

The discussion centers on the components of an atom, specifically identifying electrons, protons, neutrons, quarks, and the potential existence of strings as per string theory. Participants emphasize the importance of understanding historical models, noting that the Planetary Model by Sir Ernest Rutherford was established in 1911, while the Bohr model, developed by Niels Bohr, was introduced in 1913. The conversation also references a resource for further information on sub-atomic particles.

PREREQUISITES
  • Basic understanding of atomic structure
  • Familiarity with sub-atomic particles: electrons, protons, neutrons
  • Knowledge of string theory concepts
  • Awareness of historical atomic models, specifically Rutherford and Bohr
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the role of quarks in particle physics
  • Explore the implications of string theory on atomic structure
  • Study the differences between the Rutherford and Bohr models
  • Investigate current advancements in quantum mechanics
USEFUL FOR

Students of physics, educators teaching atomic theory, and anyone interested in the fundamental components of matter and their historical context.

Hi guys, I am new so don't expect an expert question.

I just watched a documentary on the string theory. I was getting curious and now would like to know everything that is inside an atom.

So far I know that it consists of...

electron(s), proton, neutron, quarks and possibly strings

Any responses would be greatly appreciated

I think that website will tell you more of sub-atomic particles..

Beware! :bugeye: The Planetary Model of Sir Ernest Rutherford is dated 1911 and NOT 1913.

Daniel.

PS.The better Bohr model (apud Niels Bohr) is dated 1913.Terrible confusion...
