Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the concept of "potential" in both general terms and its specific implications in quantum mechanics, particularly in relation to potential energy and the Schrödinger equation.

Discussion Character

  • Conceptual clarification, Technical explanation

Main Points Raised

  • Some participants seek to clarify the meaning of "potential," with an emphasis on its common interpretation as "potential energy."
  • One participant questions the implications of infinite potential in the Schrödinger equation, suggesting that it may imply a particle cannot move.
  • Another participant proposes that a potential of zero indicates that a particle is free to move and lacks potential energy.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants express differing levels of understanding regarding the concept of potential and its implications in quantum mechanics, with no consensus reached on the interpretations of infinite and zero potential.

Contextual Notes

Limitations include a lack of clarity on the definitions of potential and potential energy, as well as the assumptions underlying the interpretations of the Schrödinger equation.

what is potential mean Generally
? and what it mean in Quantum mechanics ?

"Potential" by itself doesn't actually mean anything- but it is often used as shorthand for "potential energy". Do you know what that is?

explain please

Again, potential means potential energy.

okay in the shroodinger Equation when we say that the potential is infinite
and potential is zero ? is that mean ? the potential energy of particle infinite " the particle is stop to move "

at V =0 "it's mean particle free to move don't have potential Energy ?
