henderson-hasselbach vs. ICE chart

For acid-base equilibria problems, how do I know when I have to use an ICE chart, or when I can use the henderson-hasselbach equation?

If it's a buffer solution, use the Henderson-Hasselbach equation; if you're given just the acid or it's conjugate, you use the ICE chart.
