Torque estimation of an AC compressor

In summary, torque estimation for an AC compressor involves mathematical calculations and measurements of factors such as speed, power consumption, and motor characteristics. The accuracy of the estimation depends on the quality of the data and methods used. Torque estimation is important for determining efficiency and performance and can also be used for maintenance and troubleshooting purposes.

Hi all,
I'm planning to drive the automobile ac compressor via a BLDC motor instead of IC engine. This is only when the vehicle is parked. Now, I'm trying to determine torque requirement. Is my calculation correct?
Power consumption: 1.46 kW
compressor speed : 1000rpm
torque=5252*hp/1000
= 14Nm

Is this value too high to be driven by a motor for a speed of 1000rpm?

Well, 14 N-m seems right.
You have a 1.46kW (2 HP) motor BLDC in your possession?

You did the calculation correctly (though a little roundabout)

1. How is torque estimated for an AC compressor?

The torque of an AC compressor can be estimated using mathematical calculations and measurements of various factors such as the compressor's speed, power consumption, and motor characteristics.

2. What factors affect the torque estimation of an AC compressor?

The torque estimation of an AC compressor can be affected by factors such as the type and size of the compressor, the type and condition of the motor, the speed and load of the compressor, and the environmental conditions.

3. Why is torque estimation important for an AC compressor?

Torque estimation is important for an AC compressor because it helps determine the efficiency and performance of the compressor. It also allows for proper sizing and selection of the compressor and motor, which can impact the overall energy consumption and cost of the system.

4. How accurate is torque estimation for an AC compressor?

The accuracy of torque estimation for an AC compressor depends on the quality of the measurements and calculations used. With proper data and methods, the estimation can be fairly accurate, but it may not account for all variables and external factors that can impact the actual torque.

5. Can torque estimation be used for maintenance and troubleshooting of an AC compressor?

Yes, torque estimation can be a useful tool for maintenance and troubleshooting of an AC compressor. By monitoring the torque over time, abnormalities and changes in performance can be detected, allowing for early detection of potential issues and proper maintenance to prevent failures.
