Schools Physics REUs 2017: Have You Heard Back?
I haven't gotten news from any of the 7 I applied to. I feel like I should have applied to more. Has anyone heard from the JLab/Old Dominion REU? It's my top choice.- Alexmer

Physics How to Become a Medical Physicist in 3653 Easy Steps - Comments
Thank you for the great article. I've noticed that medical physics PhD and masters programs don't involve any of the advanced physics courses that a normal physics PhD/masters student would take. Do you feel like it is difficult to keep up with current research in physics without that education?- Alexmer

Programs Should I Switch My Major from Electrical Engineering to Physics?
It's not uncommon for electrical engineers to take undergraduate quantum mechanics, depending on their specialty. You can also take a modern physics course which should include special relativity (this is often a prerequisite for QM anyways).- Alexmer

Undergrad Explaining the Proton-to-Electron Ratio in the Periodic Table
You seem to have the idea that each proton and electron cancel out the other's electric field. Really, the nucleus acts as a large positive particle that pulls each electron individually. Increasing the charge of the nucleus increases the pull, thereby decreasing the atomic radius.- Alexmer

Programs Should I Switch My Major from Electrical Engineering to Physics?
Check to see if your university offers an Engineering Physics major. Usually it works as a sort of streamlined double major between engineering and physics.- Alexmer

Chances of Acceptance to US University with Strong Physics Program
It's easy to say you're going to do all those ECs and score high on the SATs. Doing it will be harder than you probably think; be prepared for that. Also, having to repeat a year of school will look bad to any admissions office, so you're at a bit of a disadvantage there. Note that because you...- Alexmer

Schools Research in materials science for physics grad school
I am an undergrad physics major at a US university. I plan on attending grad school for condensed matter physics, so I've been looking for research opportunities here. There is limited condensed matter research, however, and most of it is done through the materials science/engineering...- Alexmer

Sacrificing research to study abroad?
I need some advice regarding studying abroad for someone planning on going to graduate school in physics. I've always wanted to study abroad for a semester and I've heard nothing but great things about people's experiences. Last semester I got involved with a nuclear physics research group...- Alexmer
