With a brief overview of that information and its encompassing evidence, it seems that the possibility of the Wow! signal being other intellegent life as rather slim. Personally, I feel that the possibility, even slim, sparked a curiosity among many people. I'd only heard about it a few times...

When science is misrepresented in the media, these types of effects are evident. Although I am nearly sure that religion may play a role in this, however its not the sole cause or instigator of this lack of trust within the sciences from the public.
Humans are damaging to the environment, but we will not damage it to the point where it is "destroyed". Before it is comprehensible that we as a race can reach that point, it is more likely that the human race would be extinguished and the Earth's environment as a whole will easily cope.
