Physics Starting my PhD in cosmology -- question about my career prospects
To be honest I guess I am a little bit anxious . Maybe when I start my PhD I will stop thinking about the future and I will focus on the present.- arierreF

Physics Starting my PhD in cosmology -- question about my career prospects
Spend a few years doing a research project in cosmology is my priority. Career and money are not my priorities at this moment. Anyway, it is very unlikely that I will be a homeless guy after PhD. And If become one I will not regret my choice xD.- arierreF

Physics Starting my PhD in cosmology -- question about my career prospects
So following a PhD in cosmology is a bad option in your opinion. I have always heard that here in Europe there are many tech companies that cannot find people to fill their positions. Sometimes it seems that the competion is not that big as people say.- arierreF

Physics Starting my PhD in cosmology -- question about my career prospects
Some people say that having a good programming portfolio is going to increase a lot the chances of getting a job. I am thinking to do some courses online about programming/computational skills. Like web development, data science, machine learning. I really don't know if they are going to...- arierreF

Physics Starting my PhD in cosmology -- question about my career prospects
@Crass_Oscillator I know that the others have significant questions. But I prefer theoretical cosmology. I have to tell you that what made me become interested in physics was wondering about the Universe and not computational physics or optics. Funny that I considered to do a PhD in machine...- arierreF

Physics Starting my PhD in cosmology -- question about my career prospects
@alantheastronomer Yes, it is my passion and that is why I chose to follow it. I really want to study and do a thesis in Cosmology. @Grinkle I know that PhD will not open more doors to any job (despite having a PhD is a requirement that we see more often in job opportunities). Yes, I plan...- arierreF

Physics Starting my PhD in cosmology -- question about my career prospects
Hello all,Next year, January I will start my PhD in Cosmology. Salary is fair and I don't have to pay the tuition fee. I always loved the idea of doing a thesis about Cosmology. My master's degree was about computational physics where I had to learn how to program in C/C++, Fortran, Matlab...- arierreF

Quantum Quantum field theory and cosmology
Hello all, Can you tell me what is the best book to study QFT when you are thinking to follow a PhD in cosmology (Dark energy, scalar fields, extension to GR, string theory).- arierreF

Learn What You Need to Know for Cosmology Research
Ok, I think I will follow your suggestion. I will try to find introductory books of GR and QFT. If I find them very difficult, then I will study easier topic. Thank you.- arierreF

Learn What You Need to Know for Cosmology Research
Hello, I don't know if this is the right place to post this topic, I could not figure out the right one. I have recently finished my Masters in Condensed Matter. Now I want to follow a PhD where I can work/research on the dynamics of the Universe especially on dark energy, modified gravity...- arierreF

Studying Need Advice: Struggling with Physics & Programming
Reverse engineering is a good idea when you are learning programming. But before reverse engineering you have to know the basics (variable declariation, conditional statements, loops, etc) I don't see what is your problem/difficulty when programming? Creating an algorithm? The language syntax...- arierreF

Undergrad Field effect transistors question
For what i see, the tunneling effects can explain the transport of electrons from the source to the n type semiconductor. But what i don't understand is the mechanism of the capacitor metal-dielectric-ntype SC. I don't see how can we create any depletion here. And how can we induce electrons...- arierreF

Yes the SC is the channel. But how does it works? Suppose the we have a MOSFET with n-type semiconductor channel. Like the one that you can seei in link below...- arierreF

Undergrad Semiconductor Energy Gap: Silicon Explained
Well I am not sure, but there are semiconductors that when are exposed to mechanical strains, or other types of lattice distortions, their band structure changes, and sometimes they transit from semiconductors to conductors. So yes, you can have a material that is a semiconductor in normal...- arierreF

Undergrad Field effect transistors question
[ Mod note: moved from Elec Eng, might have better luck here] I have some basic knowledge of how FET work. But i have a question that i can't see the answer. For example: In a MOSFET we have a p-doped Silicon substrate. Then we have two n-doped silicons, with a oxide layer above the the...- arierreF
