What Is the View Factor Between Two Nested Cubes?
1. A cube 1m on a side is located within a cube of 2m on a side. If the cubes do not touch, what is the view factor between the outer surface of the smaller cube and the inner surface of the larger cube? 2. View Factor = the proportion of all the radiation which leaves a surface "A" and...- badgermanb

Reynold's Number related to heat transfer coefficient
I can use the Nusselt number if I know the thermal conductivity, viscosity, and specific heat, since Nu=f(Re,Pr) and Pr=cp*mu/k And the relation for local cases (laminar flow) usually takes the form: Nux = hx*x/k = C1*Rey*Prz where C1, y, and z are constants determined by...- badgermanb

Reynold's Number related to heat transfer coefficient
Hi, I am in a Heat Transfer class at school and my professor has set an interesting challenge before me. It is not a homework problem or anything, just a side project he challenged us to look into relating to external flow. The question is as follows: In fluid (e.g air, water) flow over a...- badgermanb

Integration problem am I correct?
Yeah I noticed the negative sign when I was googling it. Amazing how a single negative can change it so much. I think also a lot of the confusion arose from finding a definite as opposed to indefinite integral, in terms of an exact numerical solution. Either way, it's all coming back to me...- badgermanb

Integration problem am I correct?
Thanks, yeah I remember that now. Worked it out back and forth now. Thanks for the help! It's been a while since I did calc out like this so I keep forgetting my little tips and tricks.- badgermanb

Integration problem am I correct?
Homework Statement Integrate: \int2x*ex2dx Homework Equations \inteudu = euThe Attempt at a Solution I tried integration by substitution: Let u=x2 Then du=2x*dx So then it is: \inteu*du Which would give me: eu+c So subbing x2 back in for u: ex2+c I looked this type of function up...- badgermanb

What Makes Dark Humor So Captivating?
Don't know if you've all seen them or not, but some webcomics I find particularly entertaining are found at: http://xkcd.com http://www.explosm.net/comics There are some fairly nerdy and/or somewhat... vulgar, for lack of a better word, comics  Some are just positively genius...- badgermanb

How Wide Should Steel Be Pre-Bending for a 21 Finish with a 1 Lip?
I need a piece of .125" steel sheet metal to be 21" wide after a 1" lip is bent to 90 degrees on one side. How wide does the initial piece of steel need to be before bending in order to achieve this? I know it will be more than 22", but how much more? If I recall its fairly simple to figure...- badgermanb
