B Can 2x/3x Equal 2/3x Squared on a Graphing Calculator?
On my graphing calculator y = 2x/3x gives precisely the same graph as y = 2/3x squared. How is this possible?- Beanyboy

Why Do So Few Students Use Graph Paper for Math and Science?
Here is Louisiana, a spiral bound pad of 100 sheets of 4x4 quad ruled paper is less than $2. It's the "nothing fancy" basic stuff I'm referring to. If you're doing any work at all using the functions, graphs, it's really handy.- Beanyboy

Why Do So Few Students Use Graph Paper for Math and Science?
Can anyone explain the lack of widespread use of "graph-paper" notebooks/notepads" for Math and Science? (Incidentally, the French use them, for all subjects) As a Math/Science learner and teacher, I find the graph paper indispensable. So often you're trying to integrate the numeric and the...- Beanyboy

Build Astable 555 Timer 8-Bit Computer Clock with Ben Eater's Project
Am trying to build an Astable 555 timer 8 bit computer clock. Ben Eater's project. Resistors are specified, but with no reference to wattage. Does anyone know the appropriate wattage for the carbon film resistors please?- Beanyboy

Why Is Mechanics So Difficult to Master?
I've just arrived at work and skimmed over your reply. Just wanted you to know: 1. I'm extremely grateful to you and not at all put off by your frankness. 2. I will have to mull over this, do some research, and within a few days I hope to get back to you. Very much appreciate your patience and...- Beanyboy

Why Is Mechanics So Difficult to Master?
The definition you've provided is one I'm vaguely familiar with. If I had to guess, I'd say that it's Instantaneous Acceleration. So, what's that? I'm guessing the rate of acceleration for a time interval that's infinitesimally small. But,back to the question: Why will a body released from rest...- Beanyboy

Why Is Mechanics So Difficult to Master?
Good teaching is often characterized by good questions. The skill of questioning is a vital tool in the teacher's tool-box and your questions are/were spot on. So, why will a body released from rest always move in the direction of acceleration? Forces cause acceleration and acceleration is...- Beanyboy

Why Is Mechanics So Difficult to Master?
1. What is the acceleration of the object at the height of its trajectory? My co-ordinate system is set up such that + velocity is upward. Acceleration due to gravity is directed downwards. As object climbs, it's slowing down because velocity and acceleration are anti-parallel. Object reaches...- Beanyboy

Why Is Mechanics So Difficult to Master?
I'd like to make study cards out of the above questions. I'd like to have the correct answers however. Would you like me to try to answer them, or would you prefer to spare yourself the agony and just give me the correct answers? I'm very grateful to you for your help.- Beanyboy

Is there any way forward for me?
Funny that, today I was trying to figure out how to write my "signature" to the messages I write on Physics Forum. I want it to be "I am the patron saint of mediocrity." (Salieri, from Amadeus) I'm 56, never did excel at Maths, so I had to start over a few years ago. I'm beyond GCSE level now...- Beanyboy

I should add, that I've used "ilectureonline" - Michael VanBizen, and DrPhysicsA (British) also Khan Academy. All freely available. We live in a "golden age" of learning, for those who wish to advance their knowledge and understanding.- Beanyboy

You're probably right. I'm overestimating my abilities. Plonker! Is there an A Level book that you'd care to recommend?- Beanyboy
