How Many Believe in Humanism and What Kind Are You?

Was simply wondering how many members of the forum were humanist, believed in humanism, or at least considered it. I'm a humanist, myself, and have been since reading about it in an Asimov essay about 4 years ago. What are your thoughts on humanism? What kind of humanist are you (Secular...

Anyone own an Apple iBook? Impressions?

I can't live without it! If you're not particularly interested in gaming, then you're set, because that's the only thing I've found apple to not keep up with, which is more because of how few games are released for Macs. It's super fast, incredibly stable, and I've only lost my airport...

What makes Gmail stand out from other Email services?

I'm thinking of switching when it comes out of the preview, but I'm not sure. Would have to download all those old emails from other accounts that I want to keep, and such, and tell everyone the new address and sheesh! That's a lot of work. :-P But if I weren't so set in my ways, I'd...

20 Years From Now. Science and Technology.

India doesn't have to catch up economically to catch up scientifically, though. Especially the way India/hinduism society is designed. It almost certianly won't catch up economically, at least not per capita, etc., but the advances will still be there, along with the infrastructure.

20 Years From Now. Science and Technology.

Not only China, but also India I think. And I would say China is already a "superpower" ;), but in Science and Tech it won't take too long to pass the US. I think the robot portion is a little iffy, though. Especially "every household". Every household still doesn't have a computer/the...

Where Can I Find Affordable Bulk Chemicals for Scientific Research?

Calcium Carbide is a Hazardous material, so anywhere you're going to be buying it from is going to have a $60 dollar fee just for shipping.

White men still dominating science posts

I was showing this article to a friend of mine, a female going for a Ph.D, and her reaction rather startled me. She said "So what?" about the point of the article, and the only thing that irked her was that section. Why can't a female scientist look up to a male scientist? In her words "If...

A Critique of “Cosmos” by Carl Sagan

Just mentioning that we are indeed reading the entirety of your posts, a kindness you've yet to show back might I add, and are responding. The problem is, intelligence recognizes only intelligent viewpoints, not ones founded on opinion and mere speculation. You seem to think while you're...

Discover Fantastic Sci-Fi & Fantasy Books

That is a great Science Fiction book. I think Sagan should be a Grand Master just for that.

William Mitchell: Become Part of Networks

It's..strange, but makes perfect sense when you really think about it. I really want to look into these books, now that I know about them. I get the feeling that this idea would scare a lot of people.
