There is a problem with your first statement that Special Relativity explains. Two bodies cannot be moving away from each other, each at 99.9999999999999999999% the speed of light. If this were possible, then light from one person shot at the other would never reach him. The speed of 'recess'...
I believe that the problem you are having 'imagining' what it would be like to be a photon is as follows:
There is a huge (literally infinite) difference between what an observer would observe as its speed approaches the speed of light versus what an 'observer' would observe while traveling...
Yes I know . . .
I wouldn't be asking questions if I wasn't focusing on the advanced wave solution to Maxwell's Equations. . .

I was thinking about the time reversal explanation of the double slit experiment, where the anti-wave-particle goes back in time and interferes with the wave-particle that we observed hit the target.
Since we don't actually observe this phantom particle that is traveling back in time (and...
I recall reading about creating a black hole from having an area of space-time occupied by a sufficiently high enough number of high-energy photons, so as to create a black hole. I believe this has some German name, but I can't recall it at the moment.
Does anybody have an opinion on this...
