Path difference is the distance one wave (from a coherent source) has to travel from its source to the observer. ie one observers ear may receive the crest and the other ear receive the trough. this would give a path difference of 1/2 wavelength.
Phase difference is best understood by...
i shone a red laser through a prism then through the gap on some nail clippers as i reduced the gap manually and onto my wall, the laser dot reduced to a wide straight line as i reduced the clipper gap, brighter in the middle but the line was rotated 90deg to the orientation of the nail clipper...

i am a little stuck on this, can someone please put me straight
This is from P7 of The Physics of Stars by AC Phillips
g(r)=G m(r)/r^2
which states that each mass element at r moves towards the centre with an acceleration g(r). He then goes on to state that the inward velocity...
Newton came from Grantham in Lincolnshire. If you have ever been there then your hypothesis that drinking in the same place as he may have once would be cool needs a rethink. Its like Pittsburg, but without the charm.
edited spelling mistakes.
John Gribbin's popularisations are very good. "In search of Schrodingens Cat" & "The Search for Superstrings, Symmetry, and the Theory of Everything" especially. I tend to use popularisations accompanied by my trusty physics dictionary and my Mechanical Engineering handbook (handbook lol its as...

Print out this free poster from CPEP on A3. Laminate it and enjoy. This poster has taught me more than reading a thousand words. If like me you are a complete but very interested novice, you will find it extremely informative. To give this out free...
thanks shchr. although not answered as i'd hoped, you have at least pointed me in the right direction. combined with some investigation myself I may then find out why. was hoping to avoid the mathematics but it seems that's unavoidable. thankfully mechanical engineering maths is fairly...
Hi, my first post. Forgive my niaivity. And please correct any mistakes I make. I am just an interested novice.
My question relates to the ultraviolet catastrophe. I believe the Rayliegh-Jeans Eq implied that the energy intensity of black body radiation (at specific temperatures) diverges to...
