Graduate Youngs slits in the particle frame
In the lab frame youngs slits are easy to understand once you associate a de Brogle wavelength to the particle. I wonder if anyone has a manner to visualise/understand youngs slit interference in the frame of the particle i.e. one where its wavelength is infinte.- Brane Dead

Graduate Room Temperature Superconductivity
There is a probable upper limit in temperature to the usefullness of a superconductor. All the known high Tc's are type II, that is in the presence of a magnetic field, external or produced by the passage of a current, the field is quantized into vortex lines. These lines feel the Lorentz...- Brane Dead

Graduate Is the universe's potential energy related to the mass inside a shell of matter?
mach and the flat potential If by "mass" you mean "proper mass" then that'd remain invariant. If you mean "relativistic mass" then it'd change as determined by an external observer. This was interpreted by Einstein to be a confirmation of Mach's Principle. Pete This statement interests...- Brane Dead

Graduate Is the universe's potential energy related to the mass inside a shell of matter?
Inside a shell of matter I would experience a flat gravitational potential and hence no gravitational force. Is there any experiment I can do, short of leaving the shell, that could allow me to determine the existence of the potential? For example would my extra potential energy show up...- Brane Dead

Graduate What Would Happen If Negative Mass Existed?
Anyone tried to imagine a world with negative mass? A mixed world of normal mass and negative mass does not seem so bad in the sense that a negative mass moon would surprisingly still orbit the earth! Might be problems in making atoms though...- Brane Dead

Graduate The Meaning of Inertia: A Look at Gravitational Attraction
Inertia has always bothered me in the sense of the actual mechanism behind this resistance to acceleration-why? I believe Mach had some idea that the gravitational attraction of the rest of the universe was behind it but did he manage to prove anything? Certianly Einsteins equivalence principle...- Brane Dead
