Negative drag on an aerofoil possible?

The lift comes from the difference in static pressure on the two surfaces. You can't have a "negative" absolute pressure. The gas molecules impinge on the surface and produce a force directed opposite to the unit normal vector. The first chapter of Anderson's book clarifies a lot of these points.

Negative drag on an aerofoil possible?

You can obviously have a negative "pressure drag" component at certain points along the airfoil, but that isn't the problem here. The problem is that you're confusing the concepts of gage pressure and absolute pressure. The gage pressure is negative, but you still have a "positive" pressure...

Actual fluid mechanics used in CFD?

CFD is just a mathematical tool used to solve fluid problems. What's important is that you have a solid foundation of knowledge in fluid dynamics, and it sounds like you have that.

No Poisson Ratio for Link Element in FEA

Because shear forces are ignored in the basic analysis of plane truss elements. Structural models that take into account shear stress (Timoshenko beam theory) will give results involving the shear modulus, which is a function of Poisson's ratio.

How do I design a two-stage compressor for a homemade jet turbine?

This stuff is described in any book on gas turbine engines. Some links: https://www.amazon.com/dp/1563477793/?tag=pfamazon01-20 https://www.amazon.com/dp/1563475383/?tag=pfamazon01-20

News Republicans' Plan to Repeal Healthcare?

They will get plenty of votes from people who either got nothing from this bill, lost their employer provided coverage, or saw their premiums skyrocket as a result. I think the Tea Party crowd actually helped the Dems pass this bill. They were able to argue that the bill represents real...

It can and will be repealed if enough people turn against it. See Prohibition.

A mechanical engineer told me Science isn't useful?

I've encountered quite a few "engineers" who believe that theoretical knowledge is useless in the "real world". These guys should take up plumbing and leave science/engineering to the smart kids.

News Health Care Reform - almost a done deal? DONE

The liberal "FDL Action" website has written a pretty damning indictment of the health care bill. They note that this legislation will not prevent medical bankruptcies, and will impose major costs on families making as little as $66,000/year...

News Health Care Reform - almost a done deal? DONE

Obama forgot to tell the ignorant masses that his "reforms" will result in higher premiums for middle class Americans as insurance companies absorb the costs of covering millions of previously uninsured people. There is a reason that insurance companies drop people with pre-existing conditions...

Are Human Beings Ready for Unification?

No, he was talking about any theory that purports to unify the four forces. The energy scales involved are many orders of magnitude higher than anything that could be produced in a terrestrial experiment.
