Just an idle question: Does the universe expand at the same rate everywhere? We know that spacetime is not the same everywhere, so with that I began to wonder about the possible variables of expansion.

Calculating latitude by the solar angle/time of day must take into account the date or it will not be accurate. GPS does provide great accuracy, but to rely on technology (and battery life for that matter) without self reliance as a back up plan is foolish, at least on blue water (IMNSHO).
