Homework Statement
15) How is it possible that many different linear sequences of amino acids can form the same secondary structure (alpha helices, beta sheets, random coils, etc.)?
I understand that alpha-helices, beta-sheets, etc. appear in tons of proteins and peptides, but I do not...
So after trying again, I used these equations:
1.90 = 2.34 + log [Base]/[0.1] --> 10^-.44 = [Base]/[0.1] --> 0.036 = Base
and
9.70 = 9.60 + log [Base]/[0.1] --> 10^0.1 = [Base]/[0.1] --> 0.126 = Base.
However, 0.126- 0.036 = 0.09.
I believe I am using the wrong [Base] value for the...
So I after doing more research it sounds like I need to use two Henderson Hassalbach equations, one for each pH. However, I don't know how to proceed from there. Do I subtract the values of base to get the difference?
Borek: On the test we will be given a table with pKa values, but here I used...
Homework Statement
How many moles of OH–
are required to raise the pH of 4.00 liters of 25 mM glycine, pH 1.90, to a final pH of
9.70? Assume that the addition of OH–
does not change the volume of the solution.
Homework Equations
I know at some point I will need to use the...
As a sophmore undergraduate myself I will be of no help to you. However, I am curious as to what these "various circumstances" are. Why were you not able to see these coming a long way down the road? Is there anything you can do to change your situation (retake a few classes, letters of...
One more thing, are there any tricks to realizing if a problem is u-substitution or integration by parts? Or is it merely just a matter of doing one to see if it works?
^That right there just solved my problems. Thank you so much for your help everyone I really appreciate it.
One more question though. How do I go about solving u-substitution problems for definite integrals? Is it the same but I plug in values of x and subtract at the end?
Thank you for the replies. I'm sorry, but I don't understand anything about A. I have never heard of this before. Could you elaborate please?
Also, are there any tricks to figuring out what u is?
Homework Statement
I am struggling with u-substitution. I understand that it essentially the undoing of the chain rule, but I don not get how to actually go about the procedure.
I have this example from my textbook:
\int4x\sqrt{x^{2}+1}dx
It says that u=x^2+1 and that du/2=xdx. Where did they...
I am a freshman at a UC currently majoring in Evolutionary Biology and Chinese, however, I will be dropping the biology in favor of enology when I finish the required classes. This is not much of a change in interest for me as Enology is essentially biochemistry and microbiology. Although I am...
Homework Statement
Denote by L(t) the length of a fish at time t, and assume that the fish grows according to:
dL/dt = k(34-L(t)) with L(0) = 2
a) solve the above equation
b)Use your solution in part a to determine k under the assumption that L(4) = 10.
c) Find the length of the fish...
Thanks for all of the advice, I will take it to heart. One more question though, what about math do all of you find interesting? I, unfortunately, find it to be dry and feel as if only a samll amount of the things I learn in math actually will apply to my studies/career. How can I look at it in...
Hello all,
I am a freshman Evolutionary Biology and East Asian Studies double major at a prestigious university in the US. Although I love school and have done fairly well in most of my classes, I find myself really struggling with math. My first quarter of calculus, I ended up with a D and...
Homework Statement
1. If a pipette is more accurate than a buret, why or why not.
Is it because a pipette is narrower, allowing for more accurate measurement?
2. What procedural differences between recommended practice and student usage do you think would result in a student's data...
