Need to find the riemann curvature for the following metric
Thanks for your help! I found the Christoffel symbols from an appendix in the back of my textbook. Yes, this sounds like it would work because the second part of the problem asks us to transform the metric into Minkowski form (I have figured this part out). However, I think the questioning is...- choirgurlio

Need to find the riemann curvature for the following metric
Homework Statement Calculate the Riemann curvature for the metric: ds2 = -(1+gx)2dt2+dx2+dy2+dz2 showing spacetime is flat Homework Equations Riemann curvature eqn: \Gammaαβγδ=(∂\Gammaαβδ)/∂xγ)-(∂\Gammaαβγ)/∂xδ)+(\Gammaαγε)(Rεβδ)-(\Gammaαδε)(\Gammaεβγ) The Attempt at a Solution...- choirgurlio

How Do You Prove Inequality for Bounded Functions in Real Analysis?
Homework Statement Let f and g be bounded functions on [a,b]. 1. Prove that U(f+g)</=U(f)+U(g). 2. Find an example to show that a strict inequality may hold in part 1. Homework Equations Definition of absolute value? The Attempt at a Solution I know that a function f is bounded if its...- choirgurlio

Is √(n-1) + √(n+1) Always Irrational for n≥1?
Thank you for your reply! Ok, going too far back into Algebra world; could you explain a bit more what you mean? Also, do you think my way is adequate? Would you add or take away anything? Thanks again!- choirgurlio

Is √(n-1) + √(n+1) Always Irrational for n≥1?
Homework Statement Prove that √(n-1)+√(n+1) is irrational for every integer n≥1. Homework Equations Proofs i.e. by contradiction The Attempt at a Solution 2n + 2√(n^2-1) = x^2 so √(n^2-1) = (x^2-2n)/2 Now if x is rational then so is (x^2-2n)/2 so this says that √(n^2-1) is...- choirgurlio

Programs Time it takes to complete degree(s)
Hello, What is the common amount of time it takes to complete an undergraduate science degree? I have heard four years and five years. What about a double major on two science fields, i.e. Chemistry and Physics; again, I have heard four years and five? To top tier graduate schools...- choirgurlio

Schools Can I Play Basketball & Double Major in Science?
Thank you very much for your help! What you said is just what I needed to hear - possibility, the dedication it will take and all. (Just for clarification; did one friend complete an electrical engineering degree, while another completed a computer engineering degree, or did they both complete...- choirgurlio

Schools Can I Play Basketball & Double Major in Science?
Hello, Some one told me that I should not try and play basketball at college and double major in Chemistry and Physics; that I should either pick one or the other. I really love the sport and the sciences and was devastated when they advised me to have to choose between things that I love...- choirgurlio
