Graduate Chemical potential of an ideal gas
Does it have to do something with Stirling's approximation (the latter one)? Concepts of statistical thermodynamics were never my strong side... :( Bill, can you help me out with this? -

Graduate Chemical potential of an ideal gas
hi, How can I show that the chemical potential of an ideal gas µ(T,V ) can be given by: \mu(T , V , N )=k_{b}T\left(a+1+ln(\frac{Nv_{0}}{V})\right) -

Graduate Plane in Space R^3: Crossing Points & Triple Integral
Hi, I got following problem. It might contain little language mistakes, since I translated it from danish. Let P describe that plane in the space R^{3}, that is given by the equation 6x+3y+z=6 (i) State the coordinates for the planes crossing points with three coordinate axis, and sketch... -

Find the coordinates of a and b
We are given two vectors \vec{a} i \vec{b}. We know that 2\vec{a}-3\vec{b}=\begin{bmatrix}0\\-17\end{bmatrix} \vec{a}+4\vec{b}=\begin{bmatrix}11\\19\end{bmatrix} I have tried to solve this through a set of equations with two unknown, but don't really know how to do that...- chrisdk

Newton's law of cooling and thermometer
OK, we let T be the temperature of the object. Then, by Newton's Law of Cooling, \frac{du}{dt}=k(u-20), for some constant k. Let y=T-20. Then \frac{dy}{dt}=\frac{du}{dt}=ky. Thus we are now using the formula y=y_{0}e^{kt}. Since T is initially 72 ◦ C , y_{0}=72-20=52. So, y=52e^{kt}. This is...- chrisdk

Newton's law of cooling and thermometer
Homework Statement Hi, I need some help in solving Newton's law of cooling problem. Use Newton’s law of cooling to determine the reading on a thermometer 5 min after it is taken from an oven at 72 ◦ C to the outdoors where the temperature is 20 ◦ C, if the reading dropped to 48 ◦ C after...- chrisdk
