Is Breaking Bad science fiction?
Well it's not completely correct but there are many right things in breaking bad, I mean, people really need pseudoephedrine and phosphorous to make meth. It can also be done with methylamine and so on... They show how hard it is to obtain some chemicals, unlike things like Fight Club where one...- Cuauhtemoc

What's the Point in Getting Good Grades in Your Undergrad?
You do not need straight A's but if you have good grades you can have a better job and be better off financially at the long term. You can also go to grad school and while it isn't going to give you much money if you go into grad school in physics there are other areas like law that pay a lot.- Cuauhtemoc

What is a good calculus book for reviewing Calc 1/2 and learning Calc 3?
I don't recommend Calculus on manifolds AT ALL for someone out of high school. I think if you want to learn some rigorous calculus start with Apostol I, he also teaches you some linear algebra(that you will need for his second volume). Then Apostol II for multivariable calculus. The good think...- Cuauhtemoc

Studying Gearing Up For Calculus 2: Need Advice!
Interesting here that was still Calculus I minus the infinite series. Calc 2 was differentiation in multiple variables, gradients and some intro to diff eqs Calc 3 integration in multiple variables, green's, stokes and gauss theorems etc Calc 4 diff eqs and infinite series- Cuauhtemoc

How to Study Longer: Tips & Tricks
Caffeine, I love caffeine pills. There was a certain mathematician who used to take amphetamines every day, it is not a healthy habit but it worked for him. I'm obviously not recommending that, but caffeine is legal, safe(if you're not crazy and take 20 pills) and you can simply drink coffee...- Cuauhtemoc

Dealing with very boring lectures
Yes, I'm the same, I can learn from reading or practicing. But I suck at learning from auditory information, professor say something, I start to think about it, he is already on another topic, I get lost. What I did to stay awake was to ask stupid and sometimes sarcastic questions, everybody...- Cuauhtemoc

Programs Should calculus be eliminated for non-science/engineering/finance majors?
I've heard about this, in the USA high school is considerably easier than in other countries. In Brazil the courses are like that, you can be a lawyer or medical doctor with a BS, but we have 2 things different from the USA that makes this possible Being a third world country we didn't have as...- Cuauhtemoc

Programs Should calculus be eliminated for non-science/engineering/finance majors?
The problem is that the liberal arts system forces you to get an education. Yeah, if you like poetry, literature and music you can go to a "liberal arts school" but if you want to go straight to engineering or law school why not? Why the REQUIREMENT that you first take classes in English...- Cuauhtemoc

Programs Wasting time with Spivak? Engi major to-be
I see, but wouldn't the manifolds book be a little too advanced? Some people claim it's like the hardest book ever to completely grasp. I'm up to a challenge although...- Cuauhtemoc

Programs Wasting time with Spivak? Engi major to-be
That's what I'm doing my friend. It isn't always practical when you're in eng school to waste much time in rigorous math, you have many other things to do. By the way, if you guys could choose only 1 book for more advanced calculus what would it be? Courant(my professors love this book)...- Cuauhtemoc

Courses Taking Honors Diff eq after shaky Calc III and Linear Alg courses
Eigenvectors and eigenvalues are important in Diff Eq, sure you can learn how to do it mechanically, but you are going to use it. In Boyce's book you start using them in the Fourier series chapter I think.- Cuauhtemoc

Programs Wasting time with Spivak? Engi major to-be
Hmm it seems interesting, thanks for the tip. From the description in Amazon seems exactly what I need, I'm not professional mathematician, just wanted to learn some more rigorous math in my spare time. I know how to calculate integrals and solve ode's but never got much the theory behind it.- Cuauhtemoc

Programs Wasting time with Spivak? Engi major to-be
What would be a good book to learn about proofs? I already know "engineering calculus" but I was interested in learning more about math as a hobby I got Spivak but it seems to assume I know some things I don't.- Cuauhtemoc
