Something interesting about magnets and weighing scales

Hi, I got hold of a set of kitchen weighing scales which are made of some ferromagnetic plate and my neodymium magnets. So the reading on the weighing scales increases as you bring the magnet near the weighing plate, as expected... they then reach a maximum just before you touch the magnets...

    How do magnetic fields interact?

Hello, I was wondering, how exactly do magnetic fields interact? Say if you have 2 permanent magnets, 1 perhaps of 0.3T and another of 0.5T and you let the N and S attract so they clamp together, would the resulting field of the combination have 0.5T on both ends (i.e. would the surplus...

Where Can I Find a Simple Hall Probe for Measuring Magnetic Fields?

Thanks, all very helpful. I think I'll just postpone my plans for a few months and go back into use the school one for abit when I can. All of the ready made ones seem over $150, apart from the chipset. Might resort to the chipset and just hook it up to my multimeter. Btw I got a quotation...

Where Can I Find a Simple Hall Probe for Measuring Magnetic Fields?

Yes, that is correct. I may be addressed outisde the third person too. :) I've tried your suggestions and they brought some up, but they all seems really expensive (>$100) ! Back in school I had a really simple hall probe which you could hook up to USB and mess around with. Good times. Sigh.

Where Can I Find a Simple Hall Probe for Measuring Magnetic Fields?

Hey, Sorry this is probably in the wrong section but I couldn't think of a more appropriate one. Anyway, I've spent ages on the net looking for a really simple hall probe - like one which I used back in school measuring a max of upto 1.5 - 2 tesla, and I just cannot seem to find any school...

Maximum Pressure Applied to Hand While Racing at 220mph

Bernoulli would be correct. Think about it, Bernoulli can be applied along a certain streamline. Consider a streamline from infinity...

Solving the Integral of cos x ln x: Step-by-Step Guide and Tips

No, this won't help. Even Wolfram gives an answer with Si(x) in it - the integral of Sinx/x.

    Quick convolution integral checking

    Homework Statement Consider a linear system with the impulse response: g(t) = 3x^2 - 4x + 7 for t>0 and 0 otherwise. Find the output for the input f(t) = t for t \geq 0 and f(t) = 0 for t<0. Homework Equations \[ \int_{-\infty}^t f(t - \tau)g(\tau)\,d\tau\] The...

Help Me Find Max Tension/Shear Stress of Object

Are you sure? I had 2 lectures on shear stresses in beams and if there's one thing my lecturer kept emphasizing it was that shear stresses are NOT UNIFORM across the face of a beam. Simply dividing the shear force by the area with give the average shear stress - potentially disastrous. In fact...

Understanding Boolean Duality: The Power of Bar and Breaking the Bar

Homework Statement An extract from my notes reads that "every boolean law has a dual: any valid statement is also valid with:" . replaced with + + replaced with . 0 replaced with 1 and vice versa. Homework Equations None The Attempt at a Solution I have no clue what this...

How Do You Calculate Forces in Truss and Suspension Bridges?

Read up on "pin-jointed analysis of trusses". The "matrix" is probably just Cramer's method to solve simultaneous equations for the member forces.

Schools To math university students / experienced mathematicians

Yes you might get in through Extra, or you could take a gap year off and reapply. I've PMed you on other stuff. Well we do a lot of practical stuff - lots of drawing and projection theory (hate it with a passion) and then move on to CAD. We have lectures on product design/engineering...

Schools To math university students / experienced mathematicians

Sure it's much easier to get into - you're almost pretty much guaranteed an offer with As at AS whilst even straight 100% at AS won't guarantee you Cam. I never dreamt I'd get in - with a 25% odd acceptance rate given all the high quality applicants no one takes getting in as a given - but since...
