    Amplifier Circuit help, impedance matching

Oh, I see now. As I mentioned, I'm working on limited sleep today. I'll give that setup a try and let you know how it goes. I'll have to order some capacitors though. That's one reason I was trying to accomplish this with just resistors. Though my, admittedly flawed, understanding is that the...

    Amplifier Circuit help, impedance matching

I'm trying to avoid using a second power source since I want the radio and headset to be a portable system. In other words, I can clip the radio to my belt and throw my headset on and walk around while talking. If I have to wire in a power source, I will, but I REALLY want to avoid it.

    Amplifier Circuit help, impedance matching

I was typing while half asleep. Parent life. Yes, the mic input to the radio works. The M-87 mic doesn't put out enough voltage to even register as a signal. I have no reason to believe the mic is broken. The M-87 is a military specification mic that is known for durability. Short of smashing it...

    Amplifier Circuit help, impedance matching

Yes and no. The headset I'm using is the military version that I was issued when I was working aircraft maintenance in the US Air Force. The main difference is the mic, which at the time, was a low impedance mic that would aid in filtering jet engine noise during use. Basically, a lot of the...

    Amplifier Circuit help, impedance matching

I've been working on a personal project to connect my old H10 series david-clark headset to my UV-5R radio. Up to this point, I've been using the headset purely as a set of headphones to listen in, but I want to be able to transmit with it as well. The problem I'm running into is that the...

Automotive Poor Man's Hydrostatic drive: power steering pump as motor?

Yes. A directional control valve can operate like a flow control valve if done correctly. https://www.amazon.com/Hydraulic-Parallel-Joystick-Tractors-Splitters/dp/B08Y6S1F34/?tag=pfamazon01-20

Automotive Poor Man's Hydrostatic drive: power steering pump as motor?

Essentially, yes. The lawn tractor the motor and transaxle came off of used a variable pulley system (called a variator) as a clutch. Since I want to reconfigure how the motor is oriented and don't want to recreate that system, a hydraulic system that can replace the clutch function seems like...

Automotive Poor Man's Hydrostatic drive: power steering pump as motor?

The problem with hydrostatic transaxles is that they are limited in speed to about 5 or 6 mph, even if you change out the pulleys. I'm hoping to be able to double that speed at low loads thanks to the gearing. Since 90% could be too high, would 80% be better for my calculations? Adding an oil...

Automotive Poor Man's Hydrostatic drive: power steering pump as motor?

You are referring to a piston pump. I'm proposing to use a power steering pump, which is usually a vane style hydraulic pump. Those provide a set volume of flow for a given speed. I can control the speed of the pump using the engine throttle. The final speed is actually dependent on several...

Automotive Poor Man's Hydrostatic drive: power steering pump as motor?

I'm not sure honestly. It depends on the efficiency of the system. I can tell you that my target max speed in 4th gear is 10 mph, which translates to about 2860 rpm on the transaxle input. I can select whatever pulleys I need to get the speed I want. What I'm more concerned about is the power...

Automotive Poor Man's Hydrostatic drive: power steering pump as motor?

Because I have the Peerless 2300 already and a used hydrostatic transmission in good condition costs more than I'm willing to pay. In addition, with the gear shift on the Peerless, I can select a lower range for higher torque applications. With hydrostats, you're limited to a single speed range...

Automotive Poor Man's Hydrostatic drive: power steering pump as motor?

That's what I thought. Still, being able to use a power steering pump on the drive side should make things easier to source. I was thinking I could use a variable flow or directional valve rigged to an accelerator pedal and also connected to the throttle. I'm still in the conceptual stages at...

Automotive Poor Man's Hydrostatic drive: power steering pump as motor?

I'm toying with the idea of building a UTV/ATV using parts from an old John Deere 210 lawn tractor. The main design problem I have is I need to reconfigure the motor relative to the transaxle. The transaxle is a 4 speed Peerless 2300 with reverse. Because of the shift arm location, I have to...

    Just another crazy, wild-eyed engineer...

or absent minded professor according to my wife. haha. I'm one of those guys who doesn't take the traditional paths in life. I'm 38 years old. Graduated with my Bachelors in MET in 2019. Went to school on the GI bill after spending 6 years in the USAF as a general aerospace mechanic assigned to...
