    GNU Octave vs Wolfram Alpha

I am trying to find a worthwhile math package to learn and use. Matlib is just too expensive so it's out of the question. GNU Octave is OK but has simple stuff like plot can be complicated. For example GNU Octave plot of floor function is: which is wrong. But the same plot of Wolfram Alpha is...

History History Channel' Universe Series - What went wrong?

Oh it is? I didn't know it had degraded so far down. I don't watch much tv and when I do I seek out science programs. Nova is what I usually watch but in my area it's switched to HD format and I don't have HD TV because it's too expensive just to watch a few shows.

History History Channel' Universe Series - What went wrong?

History Channel' Universe Series -- What went wrong? I loved watching History Channels Universe Series but as of late it appears to be on the level of a moron. Why they dumb it down to this extreme? I'm insulted and stopped watching it. Can you guys help me complain send them email so they...

Big Bang - No Single point of Expansion

he is a pseudo hypothetical being I made up for illustrative purposes. Hmm, i would have met the region of space came into plopped into existence. But citing those few discrepencies I guess my understanding must be nearly correct since you had simple quibbles about post.

Big Bang - No Single point of Expansion

This is what I understand of BB. I will use outside observer to help illustrate. At BB this observer would notice some event, a flash of light and then an infinitely small region, a Point, would plop into existence. (I know photons would NOT be able to actually leave region but i say it anyway...

Is Travel to Parallel Universes Just a Myth or a Real Possibility?

So, are you saying that travel to Parallel Universes may be highly unlikely because they violate conservation laws? I would feel better if this is the case else they appear to rewriting the rules. Should I complain about this show because i feel it is presenting incredulous information...

Big Bang - No Single point of Expansion

No, but I know what nothing is, I have lots of experience with nothing. Nothing is a common human concept and perhaps the problem is trying to explain non-classical events terms of the classical event driven human experience. I know that QM makes no sense until you start to view it in terms of...

Big Bang - No Single point of Expansion

Intuitively it makes no sense that space is expanding into nothing. Is this something I am to accept and look the other way because no one understands it... like gravity?

Big Bang - No Single point of Expansion

Cosmologist say that the universe is expanding but from no central point. It seems contradiction to me because the universe also started from a single point and EXPANDED outward. Further, they say if you reverse expansion everything would compress back to a singularity. Seems like expansion is...

Is Travel to Parallel Universes Just a Myth or a Real Possibility?

I was watching a show called "http://www.history.com/shows.do?action=detail&episodeId=373152" " on History Channel. It is claimed that someday it may be possible to travel to parallel universes. Does this not violate law of conservation of energy, mass and information? Would this action...

Hi, know where I can find "Journal of Magnetic Resonance article [18]" public domain version? I scan google and did not find. It is part of article title "Direct 3D Imaging of Molecular Structure:Quantum Sensing and Control" PDF...

Can Scientists Create Focused Beams of Subatomic Particles?

What kind of subatomic particle streams are scientists able to generate and how do they do it? I know that LHC is banging together proton-protons streams and protons are large bulky particles and interested in finer grained particles. I am like asking if they can emit quark, gluon, boson...

Time & Space Expansion: What Does It Mean?

pardon my ignorance, but what is the answer? I asked question because I keep hearing theory of expanding space and some how it start to not sound correct when one thinks about spacetime. I guess I should not worry about this since I saw a lecture about dark energy that questions the correctness...

Time & Space Expansion: What Does It Mean?

Physicists say that space is expanding. Well, Einstein says that space and time can not be separated so I can assume that timespace is expanding. What does it mean for time to expand?
