Other What are you reading now? (STEM only)

Just started on Apollo 13 by Jim Lovell and Jeffrey Kluger. What an exciting time it must have been but the US did it even when it got wrong. I hope in the near future mankind will start to travell again the the Moon and other placesbin our solar system. This year it will be 60 years Armstrong...

Relation between pressure and volume when heating a gas

Ahhhh ok yes this makes sense. Thanks guys I appreciate the help so fast.

Relation between pressure and volume when heating a gas

Clear that feels intuitively but now when volume is maintained constant. So we block the piston as in your example. In that case the pressure will increase, right? But why the amount of energy needed when one maintains pressure constant is more as when we keep the volume constant, hence delta T...

Relation between pressure and volume when heating a gas

Hi all, A happy 2018 for all PF members. I have a question. I am trying to understand some basic principle of thermodynamics. My book tells me tge following: "Heating of a gas at a constant pressure uses more heat as when heating the same gas a constant volume" How do i interpret this? I...

How exactly does an armature spin in an electric motor?

Ac motors work on a principle of attraction in magnetic field so North and South attract each other. DC motor work on repelling principle therefore there's a auxiliary field usually which is in series, parallel or both. For the torque, the way i think about it is that more current is mpre...

    Today I Learned

    Today I learned that it's a Pythagorean day: Its 8-15-17 $$17 = \sqrt{8^2 +15^2}$$ Next time will be 12-16-20 by the way. :))

How Many Solutions Does the Trigonometric Equation Have in the Given Interval?

I found indeed several with my calculator but solving it algebraically After the step cosx (sinx-1)=2 (1-sinx) as the OP did i got lost. I am strying to solve it as well without solving it for the OP. But why you can't divide after this step, what is wrong about that?

Geometry Could Kiselev's geometry books complete H.S Geometry?

I think it would be good I'm not familiar with the US gradings but this is what Amazon writes on their site: The book is an English adaptation of a classical Russian grade school-level text in solid Euclidean geometry. It contains the chapters Lines and Planes, Polyhedra, Round Solids, which...

Engineering Books for a Good Foundation in Physics

Here are some nice free books available on PF: https://www.physicsforums.com/threads/free-physics-books.796223/ I think the OP is looking for some study books although 6 easy pieces are really fun books to read IMO they are not study books with detailed diagrams etc. In that case it is maybe...

    Circuit breaker using microcontroller project

Since youre using a uController maybe youre able to detect 2nd harmonics, if you could detect this u know it is inrush current as inrush currents generate a lot of 2nd harmonics.

Engineering Troubleshooting AC Circuits: Tips and Solutions for Common Issues

In addition to davenn it would be nice to show an attempt by yourself so people can guide you thru the problem instead of solving the problem for you. There is a template in the homework section.
