Graduate Calculating Final Velocity of Matter into Black Hole Event Horizon
All of your questions are what I'm trying to answer. I am currently writing up a complete paper with drawings included to help understand my ecclectic thoughts lol. I love the devil's advocate when I'm researching and learning, and you are the best one yet! I don't have a reference right...- eli_lied

Graduate Calculating Final Velocity of Matter into Black Hole Event Horizon
We rely on light to measure the passage of time. Using basic physics laws, if something has no motion, it remains in its position. If time stood still light would not reach us to allow us to determine frequency, yet if light stood still, time would not be affected. "In the dark room, I still...- eli_lied

Graduate Calculating Final Velocity of Matter into Black Hole Event Horizon
Thanks for all the replies guys! This is going a long way to solving some independent research. And when I speak of a black hole, I'm talking about the singularity and the event horizon. Also, as I understand it light is a tool used to view objects. In the absence of light, time still...- eli_lied

Graduate Calculating Final Velocity of Matter into Black Hole Event Horizon
Wouldn't an assumption that the black hole doesn't rotate violate some law? Is there anything in the universe that doesn't rotate on some level? And as an observer, if nothing is observed at the point of impact amd beyond, does that mean it hasn't happened? That seems too convenient. The...- eli_lied

Graduate Calculating Final Velocity of Matter into Black Hole Event Horizon
If this is in the wrong section, my apologies, but I'm wondering if it's possible, with known equations, to calculate the final velocity of matter accelerating into the event horizon of a black hole, and what those equations would be. I don't think this is an easy question, so any help is...- eli_lied

Undergrad Formula for Spiral Around Cone - Get Your Answer Here
Thanks for the reply Tiny Tim :) What I'm specifically looking for is the equation for a "spring-like" spiral that is, for lack of a better term, 0 at one end and infinity at the other. As though a spring were wrapped around a conical formation with a varying height that increases over time.- eli_lied

Undergrad Formula for Spiral Around Cone - Get Your Answer Here
I am looking for the formula to describe a spiral formed around a conical shape. If any particular details are needed, please make them variables and define them. Thanks to all for the help!- eli_lied

Graduate Alternators: Better Conductors than Copper? Carbon Nanotubes, Superconductors
is there a better conductor than copper to be used in the windings? Could carbon nanotubes be used instead? what if a superconducting material is made into a tube and a coolant is run through it...would that affect the material's tendency to stop conducting as a strong magnetic force permeates it?- eli_lied

Undergrad Force necessary to spin an alternator at the rated RPM?
ok hypotheically then, let's say it's a 6000 watt generator head taken from a portable home backup generator. if i have 6400lbs-ft of constant force and the generator head operates at either 3600 rpm or 1800 rpm...without knowing the specific details such as mass(approx. 60-80lbs of rotational... -
